Lance Power supplied and commissioned a 150kVA standby generator at Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway, supporting backup power for the hospital’s MRI scanner.
Working with YESSS Electrical and the installing electrical contractor, we supported the project from temporary power arrangements through to final commissioning.
Supporting a remote island installation
For a hospital on the Isle of Lewis, coordinating equipment supply and on-site support takes careful planning.
Our role extended beyond delivering the generator. We facilitated a temporary generator while the works were being completed, then travelled to Stornoway to commission the permanent installation and confirm it was operating correctly.
The project demonstrates how we support electrical contractors with generator installations across the UK, including remote island locations.
A solution built around the site
The installation features a 150kVA Baudouin-powered generator, housed in a super-silent enclosure with a specified noise level of 70dB(A) at one metre.
To suit the site’s requirements, the generator was equipped with:
A motorised fuel valve to control the fuel supply.
An external cable connection box to simplify connection to the hospital’s existing infrastructure.
A super-silent enclosure to help manage operational noise within the hospital environment.
These features supported a practical installation, with straightforward access to the electrical connections.
Commissioned and ready
With the installation complete, our team attended site to commission the generator, leaving Western Isles Hospital with its new standby power provision in place for the MRI scanner.
From temporary generator support to on-site commissioning, we helped the electrical contractor complete the project with confidence.
